What is a Roadworthy Inspection?
A Roadworthy Inspection (RWC) is a VicRoads-regulated safety check that confirms your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards required for use on Victorian roads.
It is not a full mechanical assessment — it focuses solely on safety-critical items.
When do I need a Roadworthy Certificate in Victoria?
VicRoads requires a Roadworthy Certificate when:
Who can perform a Roadworthy Inspection?
Only a VicRoads-licensed vehicle tester can carry out Roadworthy Inspections and issue Roadworthy Certificates in Victoria.
Autobeats Tyre and Auto Service is fully licensed and authorised to perform these inspections.
What does VicRoads require us to check?
The inspection covers the safety components specified under VicRoads standards, including:
Tyres, wheels and braking systems
Does a Roadworthy Certificate guarantee the vehicle is mechanically sound?
No. VicRoads clearly states that an RWC confirms that the vehicle is safe for road use at the time of inspection, not that it is free from wear or mechanical issues.
For peace of mind, we can also perform a Full Mechanical Inspection or Pre-Purchase Check.
What if my vehicle fails the inspection?
If your vehicle does not meet VicRoads safety standards, we will provide a detailed list of defects.
You then have 14 days (VicRoads requirement) to complete repairs and return for a re-inspection.
We can quote and complete any required repairs on-site.
How long does a Roadworthy Inspection take?
Most inspections take around 45–90 minutes, depending on the vehicle and its condition.
How long is a Roadworthy Certificate valid for in Victoria?
In Victoria, an RWC is valid for 30 days from the date of issue, as per VicRoads regulations.
This applies to the time of transfer or the registration process.
Do you inspect all makes and models?
Yes. As a licensed tester, we carry out inspections on:
Passenger vehicles
Can repairs be completed in the same workshop?
Absolutely. If any items need rectification, we can complete the repairs and provide a streamlined re-inspection so you can get your RWC as quickly as possible.
How can I book my VicRoads Roadworthy Inspection?
You can book online through our website or contact our team directly.
We recommend booking early if you're preparing to sell your vehicle or transfer ownership.
